FIFA boss Infantino to be paid $1.5 million a year
August 31, 2016A statement posted on FIFA's website on Wednesday said that Infantino, who was elected in February, will be paid a gross salary of 1.5 million Swiss francs (1.36 million euros, $1.53 million) a year .
FIFA's Compensation Sub-Committee also said Infantino would be provided with a chauffeured car and lodging free of charge, and in future would also be eligible for bonus payments. However, world soccer's governing body noted that there would be no bonuses this year because the system had been abused and needed reform.
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura is to earn 1.3 million Swiss francs per year.
FIFA said in June that Blatter and two other leading officials had enriched themselves through annual salary increases and World Cup bonuses.
Criminal investigation
It said that an internal investigation had shown that Blatter, FiFA's former secretary general, Jerome Valcke, and the organization's former acting secretary general, Markus Kattner, had received 79 million Swiss francs as part of a secret bonus scheme over a period of five years.
FIFA’s Ethics Committee has banned both Blatter and Valcke from all football-related activities for financial wrongdoing and both are under criminal investigation by Swiss federal prosecutors.
"Given misunderstandings and misrepresentations concerning this process and my compensation, I am pleased that this matter is resolved and that I have a signed, valid employment agreement," Infantino was quoted as saying in the FIFA statement. "I am determined that abuses of the system will not happen under my presidency."
