First attempt to circulate a beam in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN - je 09.09.2008 10

Constanze TressSeptember 9, 2008

A big bang is about to inaugurate one of the most ambitious physics projects ever undertaken. TOmorrow, scientists at the research center CERN1 , near Geneva, will make their first attempt to circulate a beam in the Large Hadron Collider. It is the world’s most powerful particle accelerator, a 27-kilometre tunnel producing beams more energetic than any previous machine. What the scientists will be hoping to achieve with their experiment is no less than conditions close to those that would have existed at the beginning of the universe.
