Flachmann, meaning hip flask, is a nifty way of carrying a small amount of alcohol with you for that kleinen Schluck zwischendurch - or little sip between appointments. This small, flat, cylindrical flask is designed to be worn in the breast pocket of jackets or pant pocket. In Germany, they usually hold about 200 ml (7 fl ounces) and contain strong alcoholic beverages. Flachmann are particularly popular with hikers, hunters or as a practical gadget for anyone travelling. Flachmann is also the name of a line of small bottles of alcohol available in most German supermarkets.
