Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Italian national team coach Antonio Conte on a three-year-deal, which will begin after the European championship this summer.

Conte, Italy's national coach since 2014, is to arrive in London at the end of the finals in France that run until July 10. The 46-year-old's last club team was Juventus, which he guided to three league titles on the bounce, including 2013-14 when the club set a record for the highest points total in a single Serie A season.

"I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at the club and the day-to-day challenge of competing in the Premier League," said Conte in an official club statement. "Chelsea and English football are watched wherever you go, the fans are passionate and my ambition is to have more success to follow the victories I enjoyed in Italy."

Conte's coaching career began in the lower divisions where he guided Bari to promotion to Serie A. As a player, Conte won five league championships, the Champions League and featured at the 1994 World Cup for Italy.

Conte will become the fifth Italian to manage Chelsea, after Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo.
