Bremen got off to a strong start, but missed their first chance to score after 10 minutes when SandroWagner rattled the goal post.

The visitors picked up the lead after an own goal by Halil Altintop in the 58th minute. Bremen goalie Tim Wiese frustrated the hosts with several saves before Frankfurt's Martin Fenin salvaged the equalizer in the 82nd minute.

The draw left Werder 12th in the Bundesliga on 34 points, one ahead of Frankfurt. The result put Bremen six points and Frankfurt five points out of the Bundesliga relegation zone with five games left in the season.

It's the second 1-1 draw for Frankfurt since coach Christoph Daum took over from Michael Skibbe.

The rest of the German top flight's eight matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
