For three days - April 29 to May 1 - art enthusiasts have good reason to work themselves into frenzy. 54 galleries in the weekend's official program are presenting the works of their most important artists. Around 300 additional galleries and exhibition houses have joined the event. More than 20,000 visitors are expected, including many international collectors and dealers.

Works from newcomers as well as established artists will be on view this weekend. A group exhibition at the Neugerriemschneider Gallery features artists such as Ai Wei Wei, Olafur Eliasson, Carsten Höller and Martin Kippenberger.

The exhibition openings take place at all participating galleries on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday the houses are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Celebrated sites like the Martin-Gropius-Bau and the Landesmuseum Berlin Gallery will also partake.

This year marks the Gallery Weekend's 12th anniversary. In 2005, dedicated galleries came together for the first time with the goal of drawing attention to Berlin as an important center of art. Today, Gallery Weekend is one of the most important events for contemporary art in the world.
