March 19, 2015

Borussia Dortmund is a football club that holds an entire city in its thrall, as well as enjoying widespread popularity elsewhere. Germany's biggest crowd-pulling football club has its origins on Borsigplatz.

Soccer looms large in Germany. And one of it's best teams is Borussia Dortmund.
The club has its origins on Borsigplatz, among the square's dilapidated buildings and fast-food kiosks. Few German soccer clubs have had to shoulder as much of a city's aspirations for recognition as this one, founded more than a hundred years ago. Its successes as German league champions and Champions League winners helped Dortmund free itself from its coal-mining image.
