Germany's TV Talk Queen Wins Case

Germany's top talk show host won a court battle against a theater play in which a character fantasizes about murdering her. Sabine Christiansen, whose Sunday night talk show is a regular stop for Germany's political elite, sued immediately after hearing about the play, put on by Dresden's state theater company. In "The Weavers," a character says that if he had to shoot some one quickly then Christiansen "because she so often had the chance to really hit these people, these stupid, old men." The talk queen's lawyers argued that it was a public call for murder. The defense said it was artistic license. The case ended when another lawyer mentioned that the scene was a change made to the original play by Gerhard Hauptmann and was not legally admissable.
