Goethe-Institut to Present its 2013 Inter-Culture Award for Economic Sciences at this Year's DW Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany

The Goethe-Institut has announced its international 2013 Inter-Culture Award for next-generation researchers and scholars in economics.

The awards will be presented at Deutsche Welle’s 6th Global Media Forum, June 17 - 19, in Bonn, Germany. The theme of this year's conference is "The Future of Growth - Economic Values and the Media".

The award ceremony will take place in conjunction with a workshop called "Europe - an economic fairytale", which will explore the economic imbalances of the eurozone and the debate on the financial and debt crises. How are the political and economic tensions in European countries perceived by their citizens and by observers outside Europe? What can be said about the consequences of and reactions to economic policy by national governments and the EU? These are just two of the questions to be addressed by the winner of this year's Inter-Culture Award and the other panelists of the podium discussion.

Contest entries for the competition can be submitted until April 14, 2013. The award is earmarked as funding for publication costs or as a support grant for projects, with a total purse of €2,500. The award is to promote intercultural dialogue, especially in the humanities and social sciences. By awarding this prize to innovative next-generation economics scholars, the Goethe-Institut is also seeking to contribute to the perception of economics scholarship as a field of German foreign cultural and educational policy.

The interdisciplinary Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum takes place in Bonn every June. More than 2,000 participants from around the world are expected to attend this year, when some 50 workshops and panel discussions will be on offer in the three days.

The 2013 DW Global Media Forum is co-hosted by the Foundation for International Dialogue of the Sparkasse (Municipal Savings Bank) in Bonn and also supported by Germany's Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Regional Development Fund, the Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe und the Media in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the City of Bonn. The North Rhine-Westphalian Foundation for Environment and Development is a cooperation partner.
