Kato Habib graduated as a secondary school teacher of agriculture before obtaining a Ph.D. in animal nutrition. He worked as a secondary school teacher before joining the National Teachers’ College to be a teacher trainer. At the Institute of Teacher Education (now merged with two other colleges to form Kyambogo University), he supervised and mentored student teachers on training. At Kyambogo University he was Dean, Faculty of Vocational Studies, from 1987 to 2009, where he headed Master's and post-graduate degrees in vocational pedagogy for teachers and instructors.
