Project goal: To act as a role model to inspire other cities and promote best practices across the EU
Climate goal: Reducing carbon emissions by 40 percent compared to 1990 levels by 2020
Project agenda: Climate neutral urban planning, boosting cycling networks, public transport and the number of green taxis, promoting electro-mobility, improving recycling options.

Hamburg has scooped the title European Green Capital of 2011, beating the competition by showing how a booming industrial metropolis can reconcile economic efficiency with environmental protection. It’s set itself some ambitious targets, including massively reducing carbon emissions.
