Prof. Ilona Kickbusch is an advisor to the WHO. She wants the UN to make health a new development goal in this century. Because, she says, prosperity requires health, and health requires prosperity.

In the year 2000 the United Nations established the Millennium Development Goals, ranging from effectively tackling extreme poverty and hunger to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and achieving primary education for all children by the year 2015. There has been some success in eradicating poverty in the poorest countries.
Now new goals are being developed for this century. Ilona Kickbusch, who heads the Global Health program at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, wants to see health become one of those goals. In her view, the health of a country’s population and its economic development are inseparable. More in our video interview
