Hohmann asks for Forgiveness for Remarks

Martin Hohmann, a member of Germany's Christian Democrat Union (CDU), has made a final plea to his party not to expell him from its ranks for making discriminatory comments about Jews during a speech last month. In a last-ditch attempt not to be voted out of the CDU, Hohmann has appealed for forgiveness. In an explanation to the parliamentary group, he said he had apologised several times, and was prepared to do anything he could to heal the wounds he had caused. In the explanation, which was published by Germany's Fuldaer Zeitung, he said he had not described Jews as 'a race of perpetrators', but that the media had taken his words out of context. The parliamentary group is expected to vote on Friday on whether to go ahead and expell Hohmann.
