India stunned by West Indies in semifinal

The West Indies prevailed in a nail-bitting encounter with tournament hosts India to clinch a spot in the final of the T20 World Cup. Lendl Simmons' magnificent 82 runs from 51 balls guided West Indies to the win in a match which saw only five wickets taken after both innings.

India started strongly and did not lose a wicket until the 8th over, with the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane both scoring over 40 runs, before the star of the Indian team, Virat Kohli, powered his team on to a score of 192 with a superb 89 not out from 47 balls. All the hosts needed to do was stop the West Indian side scoring 193, and they began the defense of their score in style.

The early wickets of Marlon Samuels and star-man Chris Gayle left the traveling West Indies fans worried with the score at 19 for 2 from the first three overs. However, the side which will have felt as if they were playing a real away match with the strength of the home Mumbai crowd had a star of their own up their sleeve.

52 runs from Johsnon Charles and a not out score of 43 from Andre Russell were the supporting act for Lendl Simmons' match-winning innings. Simmons, who was still in the West Indies 48 hours before the match, only joining the team after Andre Fletcher was injured in the last group match, was twice caught off no-balls as he took his side to the third highest run chase in T20 World Cup history with his score of 82 runs, which included seven 4's and five 6's.

"We came here on a mission," said West Indies captain Darren Sammy. "The men have been through a lot of late so this means a lot to us and the West Indies. Chris [Gayle] is out best T20 player but we have 15 match winners."

West Indies, who were the tournament winners in 2012, will face England in the final in Kolkata on Sunday.
