The governor of the US state of Illinois - Barack Obama's home - has been arrested in the thick of what prosecutors referred to as "a political corruption crime spree." Democratic Governor Rod Blagojevich was accused Tuesday of trying to sell an appointment to Obama's recently vacated US Senate seat, as well as of demanding kickbacks for government contracts, and trying to get newspaper editors critical of his administration fired.
