Germany has lost one of its most important contemporary authors. The Nobel laureate Günter Grass died on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the age of 87.

Günter Grass was not only an eloquent writer and an unconventional graphic artist and sculptor but also an unflinching critic of current affairs. No other writer embodies post-war German literature abroad to the same extent. But what made him, and what drove him? The film looks back over both the Nobel Laureate’s career and his personal life.
