Darmstadt are down and Borussia Dortmund close in on automatic qualification for the Champions League with a controversial win over Hoffenheim. Meanwhile, there was a vital win for Wolfsburg in their quest for survival.
Down but proud
Darmstadt have finally been relegated after a 1-0 defeat at champions Bayern Munich. Their demotion from the top flight has been on the cards for weeks and, after a brief rally that gave them hope, Darmstadt finally come up short. Juan Bernat's goal proved the difference, with a late penalty miss for Darmstadt summing up their season.
Timo on target
Timo Werner was at his clinical best as Leipzig made the short trip to the German capital. He scored a goal in each half - the first a bullet header, the second a tap-in after a Rune Jarstein howler - as Leipzig tighten their grip on second place. The defeat is only Hertha's third at home in the Bundesliga this season as they continue to lead the way in the race for Europa League qualification.
Super Mario
Mario Gomez may have taken a while to get going this season, but his 15 Bundesliga goals this campaign have proved vital in Wolfsburg's efforts to stay in the top flight. The German striker scored one and made one as the Wolves picked up a vital win at Eintracht Frankfurt, who continue to falter. Wolfsburg are not safe yet, but this was a huge win for them.
Dortmund do the business
Borussia Dortmund's win over top four rivals Hoffenheim was not without it's drama and controversy. Hoffenheim traveled to Dortmund looking to keep their hopes of a top three finish - and automatic qualification for the Champions League - alive. But Dortmund came out 2-1 winners, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even found time to miss a penalty.
Killer blow
Augsburg were so close to hanging on for what would have been their second successive Bundesliga win and their third win in four. They took a second half lead at Borussia Mönchengladbach and held on all the way until the 94th minute, before conceding the equalizer. And to rub salt into the wound, it was scored by former Augsburg man Andre Hahn.
Ingolstadt denied
Bayer Leverkusen have been playing with fire in recent weeks. Since Tayfun Korkut took over from Roger Schmidt, Leverkusen have still only won one Bundesliga game - and that was against basement team Darmstadt. They were up against an Ingolstadt side that have given themselves a chance of survival, but another goal from 17-year-old Kai Havertz secured a point for stuttering Leverkusen.
Acrobatics
Mainz's stalemate with Hamburg was a forgettable encounter. Billed as a big relegation showdown, both sides were too afraid to lose to make the game anything other than a turgid, defensive affair. Mainz's ray of hope was Jhon Cordoba, who came closest to scoring and this bicycle kick was not a million miles away from igniting a terrible game.
Paying the penalty
Freiburg are flying high in the Bundesliga courtesy of a big win over Schalke. Christian Streich's side were at their best, with Florian Niederlechner finding the net twice in a dominant first half by the hosts. This foul in the box by Sead Kolasinac proved the game's pivotal moment, with Schalke unable to recover from going two down.
Modeste in the mood
Only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski have scored more Bundesliga goals than Cologne's Anthony Modeste this season. With 25 goals to his name, which includes two vital strikes against Bremen on Friday night, Modeste continues to spearhead Cologne's charge for European football for the first time in 25 years.
