Sports company apologizes for sexist washing instructions

Indonesian company Salvo Sports apologized on Sunday after it was attacked for printing sexist washing instructions on one of its shirts.

"The message is simply, instead of washing it in the wrong way you might as well give it to a lady because they are more capable," the company posted.

"We apologize profusely for any misinterpretations," it added.

The text on the jersey, designed for local football club Pusamania Borneo, who will begin their top-flight Indonesian Super League Campaign next month, read: "Washing Instructions: Give this jersey to your woman. IT'S HER JOB."

The incident and subsequent apology, which coincided with International Women's Day, provoked sharp comments from Twitter users.

Salvo Sports also tried to salvage the situation by saying, "Not all men understand how to take care of their own clothes, women are more knowledgeable on such matters."

Twitter users made fun of the company's reasoning, saying Women's Day was a good occasion to present a woman with such a gift.
