07/08/09August 7, 2009

His remarks contradicted an earlier statement by the Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, Rais Yatim, who had told reporters earlier the same day that the government wanted to install internet filters to block pornographic websites.

Yatim's announcement immediately drew a lot of criticism from media and rights activists, who said the government had been trying to tighten control on the media and clamp down on the opposition.
