The Colosseum in Rome attracts millions of visitors a year. But the gigantic building dating from around 80 CE is crumbling. Over the years smog, pollution and the elements have all taken their toll on the ancient walls. Facing an insufficient budget, the local authorities are looking for private sponsors to cover the costs of repair. In return, donors are given advertising rights and similar incentives. The Rome project is set to become a precedent for Florence, Venice and Naples as well.
