Kim Jong-Un's appointment as marshal of the country's military was announced by North Korean state media in a special bulletin on Wednesday.

It comes two days after the communist state's top general was sacked and is widely seen by outside observers as an attempt by the new leader to tighten his grip on power, seven months after the death of his father and predecessor Kim Jong Il.
