"It does not look very positive," Joachim Löw said in his press conference after Schweinsteiger missed morning training on Wednesday. The German national team boss confirmed the player has a partial tear in his medial colateral ligament and he will miss the team's friendlies against England and Italy.

Löw said Schweinsteiger sustained the injury at the end of training, and the midfielder traveled immediately to Munich to be examined by team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfarth. Schweinsteiger also missed the first four of Germany's Euro qualifiers in 2014 with knee trouble, and his latest ailment could prevent him from playing in the tournament entirely.

This latest injury is to the same knee Schweinsteiger injured just months ago playing for Manchester United. He made his return to the field in an FA Cup match against West Ham United and came on as a substitute in United's 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

Mesut Özil and Karim Bellarabi also did not take part in training on Wednesday with minor injuries. Löw expects them to be ready for Saturday's match against England.
