He is controversial, but he is still the leading force in the Left Party. Gregor Gysi. The lawyer and eloquent politician will most likely be his party's top candidate in this fall's Bundestag election.

In the former East Germany, he was one of the few free lawyers and he's often accused of having close ties to the communist state's secret police, the Stasi. Now he's expected to bring success to his party - a party which hardly plays a role in the western part of Germany.
