The pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomew, St. Bartholomä in German, is Lake Königssee's main landmark. It's located on a peninsula and can be reached only by boat. The majestic mountains around the lake are perfect for hiking and rock climbing. The via ferrata on Mount Grünstein is an experience in itself: it takes you via a cable-protected wooden bridge to the summit, 1,036 meters above sea level. From the summit of Kehlstein you can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding country. This spot gained notoriety because Adolf Hitler had a retreat built here where he received visiting dignitaries. A permanent exhibition informs you about the history of the Eagle's Nest and the Nazi dictatorship.
