Late Ramos goal in El Clasico keeps Real Madrid ahead

December 3, 2016

Sergio Ramos has never been popular with Barcelona fans, and they'll like him even less after his last gasp header rescued a point for Real Madrid in Saturday's El Clasico. The result maintains Real's La Liga lead.

Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid
(Suarez 53' - Ramos 90')

Sergio Ramos's stoppage-time equalizer in El Clasico kept Real Madrid six points clear of Barcelona in La Liga and kept their unbeaten league record alive.

Luis Suarez's strong header from a Neymar free kick looked to have given the home crowd the bragging rights in one of world's biggest football games while re-igniting the title race.

But Neymar and Lionel Messi both missed glorious chances to put the game beyond doubt for Barcelona and the visitors made them pay.

Luka Modric - perhaps Real Madrid's best player on the day - delivered a free kick that Ramos headed in powerfully as full time loomed. The result stretches Madrid's unbeaten run in all competitions to 33 games. The last time they lost was against Wolfsburg in April.

Barcelona host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday in the Champions League, while Real Madrid are at home against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in the same competition.
