Life-saving crisis maps

Natural disasters require relief organizations to get a picture of the overall scenario as quickly as possible. Patrick Meier from Washington, D.C. collects relevant data on the disaster in question from social media, and posts it on an online map.

These real-time maps provide an orientation aid for people helping on the ground, enabling them to deliver assistance where it’s needed faster. The system gives the Red Cross, the United Nations and the World Health Organization as well as individuals access to current satellite images, while they can use social media information to create a more accurate overview of conditions.
