Breaking up with coal in Germany

Germany recently closed its last black coal mines, but continues to extract and burn lignite. Although the country has pledged to move away from coal-power, how long will it take? The government is planning a phaseout, but how will it affect people in the Rhineland region in the west of Germany, who live and work in one of the country’s key coal-producing areas?
