Batteries power many items we use every day: cars, smoke detectors, watches, smartphones. DW spoke with battery engineer and materials scientist, Lauryn Baranowski to better understand batteries, the materials they require (like lithium), and whether or not we can recycle batteries to reduce the need to mine new materials to create them.
