With more than nine million visitors a year, the Louvre is the world's most frequently visited museum. Many other superlatives apply to this former residence of French kings as well.

Its exhibition space comprises 210,000 square meters - about the size of 30 football pitches. 38,000 works are exhibited, but the Louvre's entire collection consists of more than 554,000 art obects. A day is not enough to see everything. At an estimated 30 seconds for each artwork, it would take just under 13 days to see all the exhibits.

The glass pyramid has served as the main entrance to the Louvre since 1989. At first it was ridiculed and criticized. Now it is indisputably a Parisian landmark.
