The Arab world is young - very young - and widely diverse. All too many of these young people are left with nothing - no education, no prosperity, no jobs and no prospects. As much as they may differ in terms of social development, the northern African nations have in common the critical importance of education for their futures. Our documentary highlights three examples of Germans and northern Africans working together. In the impoverished areas of Mauritania's capital Nouakchott, the aid organization World Vision struggles against illiteracy and AIDS. Tunisia is setting up "tele-centers" to provide its rural population with "access to the modern information society". In Egypt's lagoon resort El Gouna, a joint Egyptian-German hotel school is training chefs and service personnel for the area's booming tourist industry.
