Marseille defender Patrice Evra was sent off after a heated exchange with a fan before a Europa League game in Portugal.

Evra launched a karate-style kick to the face of a fan ahead of Thursday's match against Vitoria Guimaraes, with the fan reportedly taunting him from the stands before Evra challenged him to move to the pitchside.

Stewards swiftly intervened to break up the trouble, with Evra, who was listed as a substitute for the game, ordered to return to the dressing room by the referee.

The 36-year-old former Manchester United player joined Marseille from Juventus in January 2017 but has received heavy criticism for his performances this season and lost his place in the team.
