More work is being distributed among fewer German workers, the German Federal Statistics Office revealed Thursday. In the second quarter of 2004, the number of people with jobs declined by 0.7 percent -- to 33.9 million -- compared to the same period the previous year. Meanwhile, the amount of work performed rose 0.5 percent, which translates into an additional 1.8 hours per worker. According to the figures, the only area of the economy to see a slight increase in the amount of workers employed was the service sector.
