From San Francisco to Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg
"The inspiration for the restaurant actually came from going out at the clubs and the desire to have this kind of food late at night. It is a very common thing in America to have breakfast in a 24-hour-diner at four or five in the morning with bottomless cups of coffee." - Oliver Miller
A smorgasbord of personal items and memorabilia
Nalu Diner is a "living project." The artworks on the walls were created by Oliver Miller's friends or by the owner himself. New ones are constantly being added. The American opened his restaurant in Berlin's eastern district of Prenzlauer Berg. He also lives nearby. He likes the diversity of the area - and a lot of people from abroad live here. That's a good fit for his restaurant.
Thick pancakes
Pancakes are surely the most famous American breakfast item. To ensure they are thick enough, the batter - which is based on buttermilk at Nalu Diner - has to be pasty. The pancake should be turned in the skillet as soon as bubbles start to form - thus ensuring they are perfect.

"When one orders breakfast in an American diner, the question of how you want your eggs is an open one. There is no standard in America. The server will always ask how you want your eggs and I love hearing this question because it really means it is going to be an American breakfast when you can decide how exactly you want your eggs." - Oliver Miller
