A half-finished Berlin museum that was to document the atrocities of the Nazi regime might never get finished, according to one of the chief planners. Berlin city officials stopped construction on the "Topographie des Terrors" museum in 2000 after cost estimates skyrocketed. Planners said at the beginning of this year that a slimmed-down version could be finished by autumn 2005. But Andreas Nachama, who heads the foundation that oversees the museum construction, told reporters on Monday that he thinks it will never be built. The federal government is currently evaluating the new version. An answer is expected within a few weeks, according to government officials.
