No relief for travellers across Europe, as a widespread ban on commercial air travel is extended once again

Janine RabeApril 18, 2010

Travellers in Europe face a fourth day of disruption with flights grounded by the cloud of volcanic ash moving across the continent. German airspace will remain closed until Sunday Evening and Britain has just extended its ban on most air traffic until 02 am Central European Time on Monday. Smoke and ash spewing from a volcano in Iceland is still being driven towards the east and the south. Experts say the cloud is unlikely to disperse soon -- and are even suggesting it could become more concentrated in the next few days. The Dutch carrier KLM says it has flown a plane through the ash cloud without suffering any damage. Its now applying to restart its operation. Several other airlines have also called for a review of the closures.
