Offenhäußer, Dieter

Dieter Offenhäußer has been Deputy Secretary-General of the German Commission for UNESCO since 2004. He is also responsible for the implementation of UNESCO’s World Heritage Programme in Germany. He was the Commission’s Officer for International Media Politics from 1993 to 1998 and has served as its press spokesman since 1993.

He studied history and Romance studies in Freiburg and Aix-en-Provence and worked as a high school teacher in Germany and France. He was editorial director for Portuguese and non-European literature in publishing houses in Freiburg and Zurich and worked as a radio journalist. He has written numerous publications on literature and culture, about Portugal and different UNESCO topics. He is a lecturer on public relations and media for students of World Heritage Studies at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus.
