Regina Ziegler was born in 1944 and grew up in smalltown West Germany. Her mother was a journalist and her father built wells, and originally, Regina wanted to be a judge. But she gave up studying law in Berlin after just one semester, and got a job in TV working as a production assistant. She became a mother at the age of 22 and seven years later, she founded her own production company. Her husband disapproved of her plans, and she left him. In 1973, the first film she produced hit the cinemas and promptly won a German film Award. It was directed by Wolf Gremm, who became her partner both in her professional and private life.

Over the years, Regina Ziegler has picked up numerous national and international prizes and in 2006, the Museum of Modern Art in New York hosted a retrospective of her best films. For the last ten years, Regina Ziegler has co-run the company with her daughter Tanja. Today, she's one of Germany's most successful producers and has found a perfect balance between arthouse and box office.
