Rural communities are suffering from an increasing shortage of doctors. German health minister Phillip Rösler has now presented a plan to reverse that trend. He wants to loosen the strict entrance requirements faced by potential medical students and introduce university quotas that favor those prepared to work in the countryside. Some say, however, that the proposals will not be enough.
