Stöger extends Cologne stay

A nice way to start 2016 for Cologne. Just before the restart of the Bundesliga season, the Billy Goats have confirmed that head coach Peter Stöger has extended his contract with the club for four more years.

Cologne head coach Peter Stöger has signed a four-year contract extension with the club, keeping him in Cologne until 2020.

"His contract runs parallel with mine, so let's see who lasts out," said Cologne's General Manager Jörg Schmadtke at a press conference on Thursday.

"In Peter Stöger we have the optimal coach for Cologne - that is what we truly believe. We are working well and successfully together, so we want to continue on this path with Peter Stöger and his training staff."

Stöger prevoious deal was set to expire in 2017, The 49-year old Austrian coach joined Cologne in June 2013, and was able to bring the Billy Goats back to the Bundesliga at the end of the 2013/14 season.

"I'm feeling very well at this great club and tremendous city. I hold my relationship with the board and the executives here in high regard, and of course with the team and the entire staff as well,” said Peter Stöger.

“We want to collectively continue on this path that we have begun. I am thankful for the confidence shown in me. That is an extra stimulus for the daily work at FC, which brings me a lot of joy.”

Cologne return to Bundesliga action on Saturday at the RheinEnergie Stadion, against Stuttgart.
