Planet Berlin: Fashion born in Berlin
The South African fashion designer Jade Helene Shimmin designs three fashion collections per year in limited editions, all of which are showcased in her Mitte store.
Fashion for an open city
Jade Helene Shimmin fell in love with Berlin when she came to work as a stylist on a photo shoot in 2014. Nothing has changed. She appreciates the openness of a city that does not prejudge anyone, and would like to express this freedom in her collections. In this vein, Coco Chanel is Shimmin's style icon because she freed women from corsets and allowed them to express themselves.
Unique ladies fashion
The designer draws nearly all her designs by hand. For her, every garment is special. So she eschews mass production and only creates small runs of pieces that are sewn in South Africa — she also refrains from closing sales. In this spirit, Shimmin loves designing one-offs together with customers.
Level Eight's essence
The fashion of Jade Helene Shimmin is minimalist and elegant. Her collections are inspired by the environment and the people she meets. But ultimately, the graduate of Cape Town's Fedia fashion school is in Berlin to try new things. 'You never stop learning in fashion," she says.
