Portugal’s German-Jewish Heritage

For many Jews fleeing the Nazis, Portugal was a way station on the route to a new life and freedom. The few who remained there often did so out of desperation - because they had no visa, or no money to pay for a sea crossing. We pay a visit to the family of Ruth Arons, who fled Berlin in 1936 and went on to join the battle against dictatorship in Portugal.
