Raid on Presumed Islamist Financers

The German police and attorney general's office conducted a nationwide raid on 33 apartments and four stores in several federal states, taking 24 presumed Islamists into custody. The men are suspected of having been involved in organizing money for terrorist attacks abroad. According to a police statement, the majority of the suspects are of Arabic descent. They are nationals of Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Tunisia, aged 20 to 66 and have been living on legal terms in Germany. Two of them have allegedly been to an extremist training camp in Afghanistan. The administrative districts of Lower and Upper Bavaria as well as the Munich area were the center of the search action. Further raids were conducted in Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, and Thuringia.
