Should Germany be awarded a seat on the UN Security Council?

My opinion is that Germany deserves the seat because this country is a big democratic, economic and political player in the world. -- Leon, US

Absolutely! It is long-overdue. If Germany is "good enough" to be used as the sixth country in the stand-off with Iran, it clearly deserves to be permanently seated on the Security Council. Moreover, the very fact that Germany pays the third highest dues to the operation of the UN can be argument for giving it a more influential voice. Time to leave World War II behind! -- R.E., US

German foreign minister pushes for seat on Security Council

Absolutely, it is high time that Germany is given a seat at the UN Security Council. The same applies for Japan, India and Brazil. Hopefully, when this becomes a reality, the UN may become more productive in solving the world's problems. -- Loyola, US

I'm not sure who I would like to receive the temporary seat on the UN Security Council. It either has to be Canada or Germany. If only we could just change our leaders to someone a bit more liberal in their political thinking. Oh well, can not have everything. -- Cynthia, Canada

French Senate approves burqa ban

As far as I'm concerned there is no government on earth that has the right to tell any person what they can or can not wear at any given time. I also firmly believe that there is no place in politics for anything resembling religion. As far as I'm concerned this law infringes on people's basic human rights to wear whatever they want. Religion belongs where it lies. It does not belong in policy making and law enforcement. There is no place for religion in government it is a spiritual matter which is unique to individuals. -- Saaly, Australia
