Real Madrid reach Club World Cup final

Real Madrid did the bare minimum needed to advance to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup final after easily beating Mexican side Club America 2-0 on Thursday.

As expected, Real Madrid dominated possession during the first half, creating several goal-scoring opportunities. However, the Spanish team were unable to capitalize on their chances as their finishing lacked accuracy.

This continued until just seconds before the break when a Toni Kroos through ball set up Karim Benzema in front of goal. The Frenchman quickly shot with the outside of his right foot to open the scoring.

The second half was a continuation of the first with Real Madrid controling the match with little effort. The 2016 Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo failed in a second attempt to add his name to the score sheet after the post had denied him on an earlier effort.

Club America's goalkeeper, Moises Munoz, had already saved two wild shots by Ronaldo before the Portuguese star finally scored the second goal of the match in stoppage time.

Once again, FIFA's new video technology played a part in the decision. The match's referee, Enrique Caceres, took a moment before awarding the goal which initially appeared to have been offside.

With the win, Real Madrid stretched their unbeaten run to a club record 36 games. The Spanish giants are to face Japanese side Kashima Antlers on the final on Sunday.
