Recommended – Three Tips for a Trip to Rüdesheim

Gert Kremer was born and grew up in the town and it's no accident he became a musician. He's been a pianist in Hotel Krone for the past 25 years and he took a day off to show us around his favourite places in Rüdesheim.

The view from the St. Hildegard Abbey

The first stop on Gerd Kremer's tour is up to the St. Hildegard Monastery. The trail takes us zig zagging up the hills through the vinyards. It's not easy and it takes a good four hours to reach the monastery. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Tours can only be made on special request. The view from up here is magnificent. Gerd Kremer's first recommendation was worth the trek.

The Apitz Galerie in Walluf

The scenery of the Rheingau is an inspiration to one of Gert Kremer's friends. The artist lives and works in the neighbouring town of Walluf. The changing colours of the grapevines throughout the seasons and the aroma of the grapes are his favourite motifs. There are 13 wine growing areas in Germany. And Michael Apitz has a collection of art works called simply "13".

The Drosselgasse street in Rüdesheim

To finish the excursion Gerk Kremer takes us to Rüdesheim's most famous address. The Drosselgasse. 500 years old, 144 metres long and 3 metres wide. The great thing about this street is the numerous wine bars and restaurants.
