According to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper, Alexander Zorniger will take over from Huub Stevens as Stuttgart head coach at the end of the season.

The 47-year-old was most recently the head coach at RB Leipzig in the second division but separated from the club after a poor run of results. Zorniger has previous ties with the Swabians, acting as Markus Babbel's assistant coach in 2009.

Following a spell with regional side SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, Zorniger took charge of the promising Leipzig side and secured promotion to the German third-tier and then on to the 2.Bundesliga.

Zorniger would be the third coaching change of April 15 following the news of Jürgen Klopp's departure from Borussia Dortmund and Bruno Labbadia's return to relegation-stricken Hamburg.

Stuttgart is second-bottom of the league with six matches to play, three points adrift of safety. Current coach Stevens will leave his post in June 2015 at the end of his contract.

The club refused to comment on the news that Zorniger had agreed a three-year-deal.
