Rio in Pictures - Day 13
As the Rio Games approach their climax, the medals are coming thick and fast and so are the pictures. Here's some of the best from Thursday's action.
Whatever it takes
BMX rider Niek Kimmann emerged as one of the day's unlikely heroes. The Dutchman, a former world champion, lost his bike in a crash but not his Olympic spirit - Kimmann simply dusted himself off, picked up the broken bike and carried it over the line.
Brilliant brothers
British brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee defied the Rio heat to claim a 1-2 in the triathlon on Thursday. The exhausted pair celebrated together at the finish line after Jonny, the younger of the two improved on his bronze in London four years ago. For Alistair, the gold was his second in succession.
The loneliness of a relay runner
Allyson Felix and the rest of the American 4x 100m relay team were forced in to a bizarre solo running of their event after a Brazilian athlete impeded Felix in the heats. The US team breezed in to the final, knocking out China.
Fine margins
Azerbaijan's Natalya Synyshyn looks to heavens, stunned but delighted after winning her bronze medal match in the women's freestyle 53kg wrestling. In contrast, her opponent Arguello Villegas is a study in the pain of defeat.
On top of the world
Japanese wrestler Risako Kawai took wrestling gold in a sport dominated by her country. The world champion was so delighted by her feat of strength that she immediately performed another one, lifting her coach on to her shoulders in celebration.
Last gasp joy for the hosts
Brazil ended their sailing regatta on a high when Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze won gold in the women's 49erFX class. It's the first time the event has been in the Olympics.
