Germany has seen the political demise of another cabinet member. For the first time, Chancellor Angela Merkel fired one of her ministers: Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen. Her decision came after Röttgen led Merkel's Christian Democrats to their worst-ever election results in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia last weekend. Röttgen himself seemed intent on staying put, but the Chancellor saw matters differently.
