Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought for Hu Jia - je 18.12.2008 08

The European Parliament has awarded its prestigious Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the jailed Chinese dissident Hu Jia. The 35-year-old human rights activist is currently serving a three-and-a-half year prison sentence for subversion against the Chinese state. He was awarded the prize in absentia.
