Every year on March 22, the United Nations celebrates World Water Day, shining the spotlight on one of the world’s most precious resources amid dwindling global supplies. As the world's population grows and economic production booms, the demand for food, energy and water is soaring. Water shortages are especially dire in areas where the liquid commodity is already scarce. But learning to use water in a prudent and resourceful way is possible. Using traditional water-saving techniques such as reservoirs and canals, projects around the world are finding ways to address water security and not only on World Water Day.
